The students and staff at WGMS honored local veterans at our fourth annual Veterans Day Assembly and Luncheon on November 11. The Arlington High School Jr. ROTC posted the colors to begin the ceremony. The WGMS band played the National Anthem and WGMS student Lauren Berhmann led the "Pledge of Allegiance." The Lancaster Jr. ROTC Armed Precision Drill Team performed followed by a special musical presentation by singer Amy Douglas. The WGMS Cat News Team presented a three-screen video tribute to the veterans followed by the WGMS choirs singing "Mansions of the Lord" and "God Bless America." The band paid tribute to the veterans of each branch with "Marches of the Armed Forces" while the flags for each branch of service were brought forward. WGMS students Sam Williams and Cody Meyers reminded us of the sacrifices of all with the reading of "America's War Totals" and Mr. Steve Pruitt from the Arlington Fire Department played "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes. Mr. Blackwell concluded the assembly by recognizing each veteran present individually.
Thank you, veterans, for all of your service to our country!

The WGMS Writing Club met for the first time with local published author Alex Allred. Mrs. Allred will be working with these students on a monthly basis to help them learn to write cover letters to publishers, gain a better understanding of the writing process and to work on stories, poetry and books the students have already started. These future authors are very enthusiastic about their writing, bringing samples of their work to Mrs. Allred for her suggestions. |

A local community member named Jim Morris recently donated $1,200 to Walnut Grove Middle School. He also treated the class to breakfast at Kim and Jenny's Restaurant. He has such a heart for these kids and feels this is his way of helping. Mrs. Korenek and her students appreciate Mr. Morris' generous support. |

Representatives from the Midlothian Wal-Mart store surprised WGMS 6th grade social studies teacher, Genevieve Bouldin, on Monday afternoon with the announcement that she was selected Teacher of the Year for their store. Students nominated Mrs. Bouldin for the award. Mrs. Bouldin received a $100 gift card and the school receives $1000 in her name. The store also brought out a cake for the students as part of the celebration. We are blessed to have great teachers like Mrs. Bouldin at Walnut Grove! |

The Community Problem Solvers students from both Walnut Grove and Frank Seale Middle Schools held their 2nd annual Community Leader Forum in the A.H. Meadows Library on Thursday, September 18th. It was a HUGE success. "We always like to get input from the community when making the decision for our project." said Tucker S. The team will be researching and narrowing their ideas to finalize a decision. The Community Problem Solvers have established themselves throughout the world. Last year, the team ranked as the #1 Middle School in the United States and #2 in the WORLD. We wish these World Champion CmPSers "Good Luck" on another successful community project. |
