8th Football - October 5
WGMS Blue 0 vs. TA Howard 54: The Wildcats went to battle with the Howard Knights at MISD Stadium. The Wildcat defense struggled to keep the Knights out of the end zone. Jacob Conde and the offense tried to get the Wildcats back in the game with a dropped punt recovery.
WGMS White 26 vs. TA Howard 12: The Wildcats put on an awesome display of athleticism in their victory over Howard. Tommy Martinez ran for an 89 yard kickoff return one of two of his touchdowns. Nick Hoover added two more touchdowns; one was a 44 yard dash to the end zone. Christian Espinoza sealed the victory with a 15 yard 2 point kick. The Defense was motivated in the third quarter by an interception by Sean McComas and big plays by Jared Phillips and Nick Morrow. Austin Wells showed leadership as quarterback and defensive linebacker with over 50 yds rushing and two sacks.
WGMS Black 0 vs. Red Oak 38: The Wildcat defense fought valiantly in the loss against Red Oak. Alec Greeson caused a Red Oak fumble but the Wildcat offense could not capitalize even with help from leading rushers Byron Boldin and Tyler Henderson.
7th Football Black vs. Howard - October 4
Black 7 vs. TA Howard 6: The Wildcats scored early against the Howard defense with a touchdown run by #41 Richard Stoy Ware. The extra point was run in by Michael Mckenrick. The Wildcats defense held Howard to one touchdown with consistent hard hitting tackles by Joshua Scott and Blayne McDaniels.
Blue 19 vs. TA Howard 40: The Wildcats went down to defeat last night in a turnover plagued first half. The Wildcats came back and moved the ball well and closed the gap to 12 points. Wildcat touchdowns came on a pass from Zac Humphreys to Cedric Whittaker covering 22 yards and another pass from Humphreys to Jalen Crawford for a 19 yard TD. The defense only got into the scoring when Crawford intercepted a pass and ran 58 yards for the other score. Humphreys ran an extra point. Other players playing well were Cody Wilkerson and Grant Upchurch.
White 12 vs. TA Howard 6: The Wildcats ran the record up to 3 -1 with a 12 to 6 score over the Knights. Jabrelan Esparza scored both touchdowns. The evening started off with a 67 yard kickoff return and ended in the 4th quarter when he jaunted around right end for a 47 yard score. Other highlights of the game were TJ Rushing fumble recovery and Jordan Linder had a 23 yard interception. Others that played well were Ezekiel Brown, Alex Serna, Lynden Carter, Grant Weston and Charles Hoard.
7th & 8th Football Black vs. Howard - September 27
8th Black 13 vs. Howard 6: 8th Grade Black Football Team beat Howard MS. The Wildcats offense was led by Christian Comella who passed to receiver JR Worrells for a touchdown, and he also ran for over 50yds. The last score the Wildcats put on the board was a 40yd touchdown from running back Ladarius Hicks.
7th Black 7 vs. Howard 0: 7th Grade Black Football Team beat Howard MS. The Wildcats played an awesome defensive game against Howard. The Cats defense caused repeated fumbles and an interception by defensive nose guard Santana Lucio. An almost blocked punt allowed receiver Michael McKenrick to return the ball for a 30 yd touchdown. The extra point run by Blayne Mcdaniel finished the game for the Cats second victory putting them 2-0.
7th Football vs. Permenter - September 27
7th White 0 vs Cedar Hill Permenter 12: On Cedar Hills first possession of the game Marcos Cornado recovers a fumble on the Cedar Hill 31 yard line. The Wildcats could not capitalize on the mistake by the Longhorns. It was a sea saw battle with the first half ending in a 0 – 0 tie. In the 3rd quarter the Wildcats started moving the ball down the field and had the Longhorns on their heels. The offense was led by some great running by Charles Hoard, Ezekiel Brown and Jbrelan Esparza. There were some timely catches along the way by Alex Serna. The blocking of Cruz Houston, Kaleb Flores, Keenan Jackson and Grant Weston led to a good ground game. The Cats could not hold the Longhorns down. The Horns had two long runs to to beat WGMS 12 -0. The Wildcat record is now 2 – 1.
7th Blue 18 vs Cedar Hill Permenter 0: The Wildcats upped their record to 2 -1 as they defeated the Longhorns from Cedar Hill 18 – 0. On the first play of the game Antonio Fiallos stripped the ball and recovered a fumble. The Cats were on the move. On fourth down the Cats fell inches short of the first down and Cedar Hill took over. The Longhorns drove down the field and were inside the 5 yard line. The Cats led by Zac Humphreys, Gabriel Andrade, Hunter Pustevjosky and Jalen Crawford did not allow a touchdown. The score ended at the intermission tied 0-0. The Cats came alive in the second half moving the ball via the air to Cody Wilkerson, Jalen Crawford and Tyrik Ramirez. The line opened some huge holes as the Cats scored on a 42yard run by Zach Humphreys. Humpherys scored again in the 4th quarter to extended the led on a 12 yard run slashing the defense into small pieces. The final score came after the Wildcats Cedric Whitaker recovered a kickoff fumble. Tyrik Ramirez scored on the first play on a darting run up the middle of the field 25 yard touchdown. The offense was led by good line blocking from Colton Robinson, Triston Verhagan, Karson Conrad and Dylan Byers. Some of the outstanding defensive players were Cody Wilkerson, Ryan Bannister, Grant Upchurch, Garrett Hopgood and Cedric Walker.
8th Volleyball vs. Jobe - September 23
The 8th Grade Lady Cats defeated Mansfield Jobe last night. The Lady Cats B team won in two games with scores of 25-18 and 25-12. The girls played great with some very strong serving from Callen Gentry and Reilly Bengston. The Lady Cats A team dominated Jobe in two games with scores of 25-10 and 25-3. We saw some great things during the match with strong net play from Erin Nelson and Lauren Paschall, serving from Keaton Shirk, and setting from Hannah Hester. The Lady Cats face Permenter next week. Go Lady Cats!
8th Football vs. Jobe - September 21
WGMS White 13 @ Mansfield Jobe 6: The Wildcats defeated Jobe by a score of 13-6. This win was the team's first win of the season, bringing their record to 1-1. The defense shut down Jobe for most of the night. Austin Wells played well defensively with 6 tackles for a loss. Christian Espinoza also had some big tackles on defense. Colby Landrum and Christian Comella both had fumble recoveries. Hunter Pittman had an interception with a 65-yard return. Nick Hoover and Jordan Todd also made some big stops for the Wildcats. Offensively for the Wildcats Wells connected with Hunter Pittman for 3 receptions and 35 yards. Wells also connected on a 20-yard touchdown with Tanner Pittman. Austin Wells also scored a touchdown on a 5-yard touchdown run. Christian Espinoza ran in a conversion.
WGMS Blue 0 @ Mansfield Jobe 21: The Wildcats had a hard fought game that ended in Jobe's favor 21-0. Offensively for WGMS Henri Seastrunk had several good runs. Joss Duncan also had some good carries and a reception for 15 yards. Mason Walker also had a 15-yard reception. On the defensive side of the ball Brooks Blackburn had a fumble recovery. Lane Bogy and Tyler Buckley both came up with big plays on defense. Londyn Slaughter also had several tackles for a loss.
7th Football Black vs. Wester - September 20
WGMS Black 25 vs. Wester 12: The 7th Grade Black Football Team beat Wester Middle School 25- 12. The Wildcats played SWARMING defense causing three fumbles with Gabriel Vargas, Stoy Ware and Richard recovering one a piece. Michael McKenrick swarmed to the ball making tackles from the safety position. Offensively the Wildcats scored with Tyrus Rudd scoring from 65 and 20 yards. Gabriel Vargas scored on 62 yard scamper. Stoy Ware scored on 15 yard run. Nathan White added a 1 point conversion.
7th Football vs. Jobe - September 20
WGMS White 40 vs. Mansfield Jobe 0: This victory brought the Wildcats to a 2-0 start. The defense scored 2 touchdowns with an interception of 14 yards by Jabrelan Esparza. Grant Upchurch batted a pass up in the air and picked it off for a 24 yard interception touchdown. The special teams also played a role in the victory when Esparza blocked a punt and Upchurch scooped it up for a 36 yard touchdown. The game started off with the offense scoring on the 3rd play of the game with a 14 yard run by Ezekil Brown. Charles Hoard went in from 2 yards out for another score for the Wildcats. Alex Serna converted the kick to up the lead. The final score on offense came from Upchurch on a wide play and broke it for 60 yards. Other players contributing to the victory were TJ Rushing, Marcus Cornado and Keleb Flores.
WGMS Blue 35 vs. Mansfield Jobe 6: The Wildcats drew first blood of the game with a touchdown run of 20 yards from Jalen Crawford. Karson Conrad added the extra points to make the score 8-0. Jalen added another score in the 2nd quarter on a run of 74 yards. The defense was sturdy but had a breakdown late in the quarter to allow Jobe on the scoreboard. The Wildcats came out with a little fire under their belt and shut the Mavericks out in the second half. The defense had 15 tackles for a loss. They were a swarming defense and did not let Jobe get anything started. Jalen Crawford and Tyrik both had interceptions for the night. Late in the 3rd quarter Cody Wilkerson picked up a fumble and ran 22 yards for a score. In the 4th quarter Jalen Crawford scored on a 21 yard run, and Cedrick Whitaker ran 26 yard touchdown. Zach Humphreys ran a extra point in after a bad snap to make the final 35-0. The Wildcats record is now 1-1. Others playing well were Blake Gardner, Tyrik Ramirez, Garrett Hopgood, Hunter Pustevjosky, Gabriel Andrade, Ryan Bannister and Antonio Fiallos.
7th Volleyball vs. Jobe - September 20
The WGMS 7th Grade Lady Cats Volleyball Team hosted the Mansfield Jobe Mavericks last night, and both teams earned sound victories. The White (B) Team played well in a 3-game match, defeating Jobe 25-17, 19-25, 25-13. Outstanding performances included serving by Abbie Blood, Alli Bernard and Paige Stimmel, with great setting by Alli Bernard and hitting by Cece Madison. Good Job, Lady Cats White Team! The Blue (A) Team played with great poise and determination, dominating Jobe in 2-games: 25-11 and 25-14. Outstanding servers of the night were Emily Sheehy and Bailee Fisher. Great passing performances included Kinlea Reddick, Jackie Muckelroy and Amanda Penwarden. Good hitting performances included Hayle Heisroth and Tarin Mergener.
8th Volleyball vs. Worley - September 16
The WGMS 8th grade Lady Cats defeated Mansfield Worley last night in their 1st home game of the season. The Lady Cats B team won in two games with scores of 25-19 and 25-13. The girls played well making their record 2-0 in district. Top servers were Callen Gentry and Reilly Bengston. The Lady Cats A team also won in 2 games with scores of 25-19 and 25-11. Top servers were Aubrey Starnes and Bailey Fry, with Lauren Paschall and Erin Nelson both contributing 2 blocks apiece in the match. That makes A team 2-0 in district as well. The 7th and 8th grade A teams will be traveling to Allen this weekend to play in Allen's Texas open tournament. Go Lady Cats!!
8th Football vs. Worley - September 14
8th Grade White: WGMS 0 vs. Worley 6. Offensive players that played well were Austin Wells, Colby Landrum, and Tanner Pittman. Defensive players were Nick Hoover, Christian Espinoza, Cade Clanton, Alec Greeson and Connor Davidson. The defense made 3 stops inside the 20 to keep the game close.
8th Grade Blue: WGMS 13 vs. Worley 49. Offensive players that played well were Ri Seastrunk, Joss Duncan and Tommy Martinez. Defensive players that played well were Tommy Martinez, Ri Seastrunk and Luke Boykin. Tommy Martinez scored on a 76 yard kickoff return and Ri Seastrunk scored on a 14 yard touchdown up the middle. Joss Duncan scored the extra point.
7th Football Game Reports - September 13
WGMS 7th Grade Black Team had a scrimmage with Frank Seale. Both teams fought hard and played well.
WGMS 7th Grade White Team 18 @ Mansfield Worley 6. The Wildcats won the tough fought contest 18-6. Offensively for the Wildcats Grant Upchurch had a big game. He rushed for 227 yards and had touchdown runs of 78 yards, 88 yards, and 25 yards. Ezequiel Brown did an excellent job blocking on the Upchurch touchdowns. Kaleb Flores had a great game at center with blocking and his snaps. Defensively Charles Hoard made several big plays. Jabrelan Esparza came up with some big hits for the Wildcats. Alex Serna played very well at outside linebacker.
WGMS 7th Grade Blue Team 12 @ Mansfield Worley 20. The Wildcats fought tough, but came out on the losing end of a 20-12 contest. For the Wildcats, Tyrik Ramirez started off the offense with a 75 yard touchdown catch and run. Zach Humphreys had a 65 yard run that set up his touchdown run 4 plays later. Colton Robinson had a good game at center for the Wildcats. Cody Wilkerson had a nice catch and run. He also had a great block to aid in a touchdown. Defensively, Blake Gardner came up big for the Wildcats at inside linebacker. Cedric Whitaker had some big hits and defended the pass well. Tyrik Ramirez and Jalen Crawford both played well at safety. Dalton Samek had a big game defensively at linebacker and nose.
8th Volleyball B Tournament Champs! - September 11
The 8th grade B Volleyball team won 1st Place at the Midlothian Volleyball Tournament this past weekend! After pool play, the Lady Cats defeated Kennedale and Waxahachie both in two games to bring home the 1st place trophy! The girls played amazing with everyone contributing their own part to the overall victory! They definitely showed the true definition of teamwork to pull out the championship! Way to go Lady Cats! Keep up the amazing work!
8th Volleyball vs. Worley- September 9
The Lady Cats 8th grade volleyball teams had a great start to the season last night defeating Wester. Both A and B teams won starting off at 1-0 in district. The B team went 3 games with scores of 16-25, 25-16, and 25-17. Top servers were Carley Haizlip, Harley Floyd, and Callen Gentry. The A team won in 2 games with scores of 25-22 and 25-19. Top servers were Keaton Shirk and Lauren Paschall. Go Lady Cats!

8th Grade Basketball Games & Practices Canceled
The 8th grade boys and girls basketball games scheduled for tonight (January 7) have been canceled. There will be no early morning basketball practice for girls or boys on Friday, January 8.
Girls Basketball Game Reports - December 14
The 7th B Lady Cats beat Worley last night by a score of 51 to 15. Top scorers were Bailey Miller, Cheyenne Louthan, and Carley Haizlip with 8 points, Rachel Jones 6, Brittany Bailey 4, Alex Brouwer 6, Brittany Holloway 4, Jordan Momberger 3, and Kelsey Martin, Amanda Slovak 2. The defensive standouts were Juliana Espinoza, Emily Woods, Treci Donald, Caitlyn Conley, and Kaylee Goerig had several rebounds and steals in the game. The Lady Cats are now 2-0 in District play!
The Lady Cats A team defeated Worley last night 56-15. Leading the Lady Cats were Lauren Paschall with 16, Karrington Slaydon 10, Sydney Rangel and Erin Nelson 6, Haley Floyd, Keaton Shirk, Bailey Fry, and Cydney James with 4, and Bailey Woods with 2. Great defense by Aubrey Starnes. Congrats on an exciting victory!
The 8th Grade A team Lady Cats came out on fire against Worley and came out with a victory 49 to 13. The top scores were Shelbie Tucker 16, Delaney Wayland 10, Raeleigh Smallwood 8, Baylee Barnes 6, Kaitlin Zuccaro 3, Kylie Blackwell, Dani Mayfield, and Heather Colquitt 2 points each. Defensive standouts were Jasmine Shead and Lydia Traylor. The Lady Cats are now 2-0 in District play!
The 8th Grade Lady Cats White Team faced the Worley Lady Tigers and finished '09 with two great wins! The 8th Grade B Team finished with a resounding victory, 30-18. The entire team was focused, rebounded well, hustled and gave an overall great effort in an otherwise difficult game. R. Blohm, K. Demerse, J. Cyrus, K. Flippin, and J. Barr did an outstanding job rebounding, setting picks and transitioning. Scoring include: R. Denler: 6 pts., C. Lowman: 2 pts., A. Graham: 3 pts., C. Sylvester: 4 pts., C. Pendley: 4 pts., E. Kuser: 4 pts., S. Espinoza: 3 pts., M. Durante: 4 pts. The Lady Cats are now 1-1 in district and 4-1 overall for the year including WGMS Invitational Tournament Champions this past week. 8th B Girls WGMS Tournament - December 11 and 12
The 8th Grade Lady Cats B Team hosted the annual WGMS Invitational this weekend and finished the weekend as Tournament Champions! The Lady Cats faced Alvarado Friday evening, winning 50-23 in a great overall effort in only their second game of the season. Barr, Flippin, Wells, Durante, Demerse, Cyrus and Pendley played stellar defense, rebounded and set great screens throughout the game.Score highlights include: Denler: 22 pts., Lowman: 9 pts., Graham: 9 pts., Blohm: 2 pts., Sylvester: 2 pts., Pendley: 2 pts., Espinoza: 4 pts. Saturday morning, the Cats defeated Waxahachie by 15 points, 34-19 to move to the championship game. Barr, Flippin, Wells, Durante, Sylvester, Demerse, and Cyrus did a tremendous job setting great screens and rebounding throughout the game that contributed to the great win. Score Highlights: Lowman: 2 pts., Graham: 6 pts., Blohm: 5 pts., Denler: 13 pts., Pendley: 2 pts., Kuser: 2 pts., Espinoza: 4 pts. The Lady Cats faced a tough opponent in the Tournament Championship game against Burleson Kerr, winning 30-18, in a hard-fought defensive battle. Blohm, Flippin, Barr, Demerse, and Cyrus did a superb job rebounding on the offensive boards for second-chance shots and setting bone-crushing picks to get the ball-handlers upon looks. All of the Lady Cats overall really contributed to the tournament victory. 7th B Girls Frank Seale Tournament - December 11 and 12
The 7th Grade B team Lady Cats did a great job this weekend in the Frank Seale Tournament. They worked hard and came out with a 2nd Place Finish! Way to go Lady Cats!
7th A Girls Duncanville Tournament - December 11 and 12
The Lady Cats 7th grade A team brought home the third place trophy this weekend from the Duncanville Kennemer Tournament. Friday night the Lady Cats defeated Duncanville Kennemer 29-10. Leading the Lady Cats were Karrington Slaydon with 7 points, Lauren Paschall 6, Sydney Rangel, Keaton Shirk, and Aubrey Starnes with 4 each, and Cydney James and Erin Nelson each had 2. Saturday morning the Lady Cats fell short against Wester 19-22. Lauren Paschall led the team with 10 points, Karrington Slaydon followed with 5, Cydney James and Erin Nelson each had 2. Great defense by Sydney Rangel. The Lady Cats defeated Permenter (Cedar Hill) 36-18 for 3rd place Saturday afternoon. Leading the Lady Cats were Karrington Slaydon with 16 pts, Lauren Paschall with 10, Cydney James 4, and Keaton Shirk and Aubrey Starnes each had 2. Great defense by Bailey Woods, Sydney Rangel, Erin Nelson and Bailey Fry. Congrats on a great tournament. Come support the Lady Cats tonight as they take on the Worley Tigers in Mansfield!
8th A Girls Whitney Tournament - December 11 and 12
The 8th Grade Girls A team Lady Cats traveled to Whitney this past weekend and did great job and came home with a 2nd place finish. On Friday night the Lady Cats faced Waco Connolly and beat them 37 to 30. Top scores were Delaney Wayland 14, Dani Mayfield 8, Raeleigh Smallwood 7, and Kylie Blackwell, Kaitlyn Zuccaro, Baylee Barnes, Heather Colquitt 2 points. Then the Lady Cats faced the Frank Seale Lady Cubs and won 30 to 23. Top scorers were Raeleigh Smallwood 9, Shelbie Tucker 7, Delaney Wayland 4, Kaitlyn Zuccaro 4, and Dani Mayfield, Jasmin Shead, and Heather Colquitt 2. The Lady Cats then played in the Championship game vs Crawford and fell short in the end. Dani Mayfield scored 12, Lydia Traylor, Delaney Wayland, and Baylee Barnes 2 and Kaitlyn Zuccaro 1. The Lady Cats will play Worley this week in district play. Way to Go Lady Cats!!
7th A Girls Midlothian Tournament - December 4 and 5
The 7th grade Lady Cats A Team placed first in the Midlothian tournament this weekend! Friday night the Lady Cats defeated Waxahachie 40-21. Lauren Paschall and Karrington Slaydon led the team in points with 14 each. Bailey Woods, Keaton Shirk, and Aubrey Starnes each had 3, and Bailey Fry scored 2 pts. Saturday morning the Lady Cats defeated Warren (Forney) 41-29. The Lady Cats were trailing at half time by 3. They came out strong scoring 17 points in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth to defeat Warren by 12. Karrington Slaydon led the team with 11, Keaton Shirk followed with 8, Lauren Paschall had 6, Harley Floyd and Cydney James each had 5, Bailey Woods, Bailey Fry, and Sydney Rangel each had 2pts. Great effort by all Lady Cats! In the Championship game, the Lady Cats defeated Summer Creek 28-22 in a tough defensive battle. Lauren Paschall led the team in points with 9, Karrington Slaydon with 6, Erin Nelson with 5, Keaton Shirk with 3, Sydney Rangel and Harley Floyd with 2 and Cydney James with 1. Great Job!
8th A Girls Midlothian Tournament - December 4 and 5
The 8th grade Lady Cats kicked off the season Friday night at the WGMS Girls 8th A Tournament vs Alvarado. The Lady Cats played well in their first game and beat Alvarado by a score of 40 to 18. Top scorers for the night were Raeleigh Smallwood with 13, Delaney Wayland with 8, Shelbie Tucker with 8, Heather Colquitt 4, Lydia Traylor 4, Dani Mayfield 2 and Kaitlyn Zuccaro 1.
Saturday morning the Lady Cats faced Crowley Summer Creek and came out strong and defeated Crowley 45 to 31 to move to the Championship game. Top scorers were Raeleigh Smallwood 12, Delaney Wayland 10, Dani Mayfield 8, Bailee Barnes 4, Shelbie Tucker 4, Kaitlyn Zuccaro 3, Jasmine Shead 2, Heather Colquitt 2.
Saturday afternoon the Lady Cats faced Red Oak in a tough matchup but fell short in the championship game. The Lady Cats place 2nd overall in the WGMS 8th A Tournament.

Student Athletes of the Month - December
Jessica Lindenmeyer and Brendan Cornell were selected to be Athlete of the Month in the December issue of the "Together We Can!" newsletter. Please help us congratulate these student athletes.

Jessica Lindenmeyer is an 8th grader at Walnut Grove. She played on the “A” team for Volleyball this year. Jessica contributed greatly to the teams successful season finishing 2nd in district, and finishing 1st in both of their tournaments. Coach Caroline Walraven says, “Jessica is a very hard worker both in athletics and in the classroom.”
Brendan Cornell is an 8th grader at Walnut Grove. Brendan is an athlete who is very coachable, a leader on the floor and works very hard in practice. He is the point guard on the 8th grade Wildcat Basketball team. He leads the team with his positive attitude, work ethic and desire to be the best. Brendan also played outside linebacker and receiver on the football team. He played hard-nosed defense for the Cats stopping the run and defending against the pass. He was a triple threat with his ability to catch, run and throw the ball. He scored many crucial touchdowns during the season. WGMS Boys Coordinator, Coach Butch Phillips describes Brendan as “a student of the game and a pleasure to coach.”
Football Game Reports - Week of November 9
Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade football teams who won the Porcelain Panther against Frank Seale in the Midtown Showdown. The 7th grade B game ended in a 13-13 tie against the Cubs on Monday night. The 7th grade A team was defeated by FSMS but they played to the end. Both the A and B 8th grade teams dominated the Cubs on Tuesday night. The two wins last night sealed the victory for the Cats to keep the Porcelain Panther another year. Go Cats!
Volleyball Game Reports - Week of November 9
Both 8th Grade Lady Cats volleyball teams defeated the Frank Seale Lady Cubs last night! The girls played with intensity and heart throughout both matches. The A team finished with a season record of 8-1 for 2nd place in district. The B team finished with a record of 8-1, which has them tied for 1st place in district. Way to go, Lady Cats!
The 7th Grade Lady Cat Volleyball Team competed with the Frank Seale Lady Cubs in the "Midtown Showdown" on at Walnut Grove and finished the season with two victories. The Lady Cats White (B) Team finished the season 7-2 with a victory over the Lady Cubs in 2 games, 25-7 and 25-17. All the girls put forth great effort, highlighted by a serving exhibition by Amanda Slovak, serving 19 in a row. The The 7th Grade Blue (A) Team completed the season with a perfect record, 9-0, with a victory over the Lady Cubs in 2 games, 25-3 and 25-17. The Lady Cats worked hard all night, learning new positions and rotations and did a tremendous job, highlighted by a serving exhibition by Keaton Shirk, serving a record 21 in a row! All the girls played hard, worked together as a team and showed why they are District Champions for the first time ever in WGMS history! Congratulations to all the Lady Cats on an outstanding 2009 volleyball season.
Cross Country District Meet - October 28
Congratulations to all the cross country teams on their success this season! All of the runners worked very hard this year, and as a result, shined at the district meet. Overall ,8th grade B girls finished in 2nd place and 8th grade A boys finished 2nd place. The 7th grade B boys came in 5th, 7th grade A boys came in 2nd, 7th grade B girls received 2nd and 7th grade A girls are the district champs coming in first overall. Karrington Slaydon and Sydney Rangel placed 1st and 2nd for the 7th grade A girls team and Tommy Martinez finished 1st for 7th grade A boys. Heather Webb placed 1 for 8th grade B girls team. Great Job Wildcats!

The 8th grade Lady Cats B Team defeated Danny Jones in two games, 25-10, 25-18. The 8th grade Lady Cats A Team defeated the undefeated Danny Jones in three games, 25-17, 16-25, 25-17. Great Job! Go Cats!
Football Game Reports - Week of October 19
The 7th grade White team lost to Danny Jones 28-0. Octavio Avila had several good runs for the Wildcats. Billy Kirkpatrick had a sack and several good tackles and Colby Landrum played well on defense. Danny Jones had several big plays that put points on the board. The Blue team's first half was a 0-0 battle. Both defenses made big plays. Jericho Saul had several good passes to Ri Seastrunk. The Wildcats were close to breaking a score. The first play of the second half went for a touchdown for Jones. The defense had trouble stopping the Bulldogs in a 20-0 loss.
The 8th grade white team had a tough, back and forth battle with Danny Jones, but ended up losing 30-18. Offensively for the Wildcats, Cole Whittaker had a big game throwing for two touchdowns and several other good gains. Bryce Roseborrough had a good game with 4 catches and a touchdown. Juston Lynch had a nice game with 2 touchdown catches. Jacolby Foreman had a big catch on 4th down. Defensively, Nick Larson caused a fumble that was picked up by Avery Higdon. Higdon had a big game defensively coming up with several huge plays. The blue team played a tough game. They ended up losing 31-30. Offensively, Quindell Daniels had a big game connecting with Nathan Brooks twice for touchdowns. Daniels also rushed for a touchdown. Cody Samek had a touchdown run, as well as 3 extra points. Caleb Dobson had a blocked punt return of 35 yards down to the one-yard line. Matthew Heck made a big tackle on special teams. Jack Bryant had several tackles for a loss. Zantana Tapia also had some big plays defensively.

The 8th grade B team defeated Howard in three games with scores of 11-25, 25-9, 25-17. The girls really pulled together in the second and third games. Congratulations on an exciting victory! The 8th grade A team beat Howard in two games. The scores were 25-12, 25-19. The team played very well together to make for an exciting match!

The Walnut Grove Lady Cats 7th grade volleyball teams traveled to Cedar Hill Permenter and came home with resounding victories. The Lady Cats White Team dominated the first game with a score of 25-8. Bright spots in the game included a serving display by Amanda Slovak, serving an amazing 17 in a row! The second game was a little closer, but the Lady Cats came from behind and showed a lot of heart, taking the game 27-25. Great Job, White Team! The Lady Cats Blue Team continued their district domination with two definitive victories, 25-8 and 25-5. All 10 girls played well together and served the ball like champions, with Lauren Paschall, Keaton Shirk and Hannah Hester leading the way. Congratulations, Lady Cats Blue Team! 4-0 so far in district competition. Keep the Grove Train a-rollin', girls! Go Lady Cats!
Football Game Reports - Week of October 5
The 7th grade football teams took on Cedar Hill Permenter on Monday night. The 7th white team played tough but came up short with a final score: Permenter 13 and Walnut Grove 6. Luke Boykin had several good pass plays that included a 10 yd touchdown to Joseph Lopez. The extra point was missed. The defense only gave up 7 points. Permenter also scored on a punt return. Many skills were improved upon with the white team this week. The blue team final score was Permenter 33 and Walnut Grove 0. The blue team struggled on offense and defense in a tough loss. Will Wiens had several good passes. Keep playing tough, Wildcats!
Volleyball Game Reports - Week of September 28
The 7th grade volleyball teams beat Mansfield Jobe last night with very decisive wins! The A team defeated Jobe in two games with scores of 25-10 and 25-9. The B team also pulled out the win in only two games. The scores were 25-16 and 25-22.
The 8th Grade Lady Cats A and B team defeated Jobe last night! That makes the record for both teams 2-1 in district. Go Lady Cats!
Football Game Reports - Week of September 28
The 7th grade white team fought hard in a tough loss to Mansfield Jobe last night. Jordan Todd scored the only touchdown and the extra point to go up 7-6. A late touchdown pass sealed the victory for Jobe with a final score of WGMS 7 - Jobe 12. The blue team held Mansfield Jobe scoreless at the half with a score of 0-0. Late penalties cost the team and Jobe capitalized by scoring two touchdowns to defeat the Wildcats 12-0.
The 8th grade White team went out and played hard last night against Mansfield Jobe. The Cats won 20-0! The defense really stepped up this week to post the first shutout of the year. Defensively, there were 3 interceptions. Roman Brown had 2 interceptions and Tylor Frailey had the other one. Avery Higdon also had a big game defensively recording 8 tackles and recovering a fumble. Aaron Jobe blocked a punt. Offensively there were several big plays including 2 touchdown runs for Austin Adams and a touchdown run for Taylor Rawlinson. Cole Whittaker also connected with Jacolby Forman and Connor Buttgen for extra points. Whittaker ended the game with over 150 passing yards.
The 8th grade Blue team played another solid game. They came out on top 23-0! This is the first shutout of the year for the blue team. The defense stepped up and made some great plays this week. Wesley Smith came up with a big sack for a safety. Chandler Rios made a huge interception. Offensively, the Wildcats got started with a 60 yard Touchdown run by Cody Samek. Samek also had a 6 yard run for a touchdown. Quindell Daniels connected with Brendan Cornell for a 15 yard pass and catch for a touchdown.
Football Game Reports - Week of September 21
7th White: Worley 28- Walnut Grove-0. Miguel Leal had an interception in the 2nd quarter. Leal also came in the game at running back and had a long run for the Wildcats. Game called in 4th quarter to start the Blue game before the storm.
7th Blue: Worley-6 Walnut Grove-0. The Wildcats had some good defensive plays, but the game was called at the half before the offense could get things moving.
8th Grade White- The White team played hard and lost 38-20. They started off slow on defense, but played better in the second half. Dakari Berry played well offensively. He had a long reception and a 20 yard touchdown run. Austin Adams played well on both sides of the ball. He ran for 2 touchdowns and had a 55 yard kickoff return. He also had multiple tackles on defense, including 2 sacs.
8th Grade Blue - The Blue team played hard and came out with a victory 20-18. Defensively we had several big plays from Cody Samek. Quindell Daniels also played well on the defensive side of the football. Tariq Mustafaa came up with some big stops on defense as well. Offensively Quindell Daniels had numerous large plays including a touchdown on a QB sneak and a 46 yard touchdown passing play to Nathan Brooks.

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade volleyball A teams! Both the 7th grade A team and 8th grade A team won 1st in the Midlothian Tournament on September 19! 8th grade beat Kerr for the Championship and 7th grade defeated Waxahachie. Way to go, Lady Cats!
7th Grade Football
The blue team struggled in the first scrimmage as the Wester Wildcats defeated the Walnut Grove Wildcats 8-0 on Monday, September 14. Luke Boykin led the offense with several good plays. The white team had success moving the ball. Joss Duncan and Darion Daniels had several good runs, which contributed to the white team success. The white team offense was led by Will Weins. Neither team scored. Wester 0, Walnut Grove 0.

Volleyball Tournament Champs!
The Lady Wildcats opened the season with impressive play at the Wills Point Tournament. Both the 7th and 8th grade Lady Cats A Teams came home with the championship trophies for their divisions! The 7th grade team won the first match in 2 games, the second match in 2 games, and the championship match in 3 games. What a fun way to kick off the season! Way to go, Lady Cats!
