| T. E. Baxter Elementary
opened its doors in August of 1988. It is located at 1050 Park Place on
the corner of Park Place and Mockingbird Lane. It is nestled at the back
of the original Park Place neighborhood. Baxter serves students PreK-5th
grade.
The
school was named after T.E. Baxter, a veteran and 29 year educator. Mr.
Baxter remains involved in the school. He visits each Tuesday and has
reading time with students. They LOVE to see him!
Baxter believes in “doing what is best for the student”.
The school’s theme is “Circle of Friends”, and that’s
just what Baxter is. It holds true from the students, staff, and volunteers,
to the community. Staff members work very hard to educate and help mold
our students into well rounded individuals.
Many special services are available to meet students’
needs. The campus offers a continuum of services designed to meet the
goals for every student.
These Instructional Programs Include:
- ESL (English
as a Second Language)
- RISE (Reading Is Essential)
- Special Education Services
for qualifying students including Speech, Resource, CBI (Community Based
Instruction)
Multisensory Teaching Approach for children with dyslexia
- Inclusion (Assistance for students within the
regular education classroom)
- Content Mastery
- Learning Lab: Assistance for students needing additional support.
Other programs and student activities include: Gifted
and Talented programs, LEAP tutoring (for extended school-day instruction),
Destination Imagination, Math Pentathlon, Safety Patrol, Choir & Music
Club, Service Learning projects, Community Service Problem Solving, and
Technology Integration in all subject areas.
Baxter also has a wonderful and dedicated volunteer group
called TEAM. This organization is headed up by parent volunteers and offers
ongoing support throughout the year. They assist the staff, students,
and over-all school needs with countless daily tasks. Their invaluable
presence helps make Baxter what it is today.
Baxter welcomes all parents and volunteers to be an active
part of our school. We are all working for the same goal - the success
of our children’s future!
