Campus Security
- All campuses/facilities have a keyless entry system designed to provide access only to authorized personnel
- Criminal history checks are required for all new employees
- 24/7 security cameras monitor each campus
- K-9 Sweeps: Specially trained canines are regularly used at all secondary schools to help keep them secure and drug-free. Sweeps are conducted without prior notification or warning, and may include locker checks, parking lot inspection, and searching of personal property brought on campus.
Campus Visitors
MISD uses “The Raptor V-Soft” visitor management system, which enhances campus safety by producing uniform badges in order to track all incoming and outgoing campus visitors.
All visitors must:
- Present a valid photo I.D. card
- Wear a visitor badge at all times while visiting
- Adhere to all campus rules while visiting
Safety Procedures
- State law mandates fire drills. One fire drill must be held each month on each campus. Each campus has its own fire evacuation plan, which all staff are required to know on each of their respected campuses.
- Tornado drills are reviewed with students and staff and are practiced between the months of February to June each school year.
- Lockdowns:
Elementary Schools: An announced lockdown drill is held during the fall semester at the principals’ discretion and an unannounced drill is held in the spring semester at each campus.
Secondary Schools: One lockdown is administered each year unannounced. The campuses are evaluated during these lockdowns.
Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Program
MISD offers a comprehensive Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities program that includes drug use prevention and violence prevention. The four goals are:
- Prevent violence in and around schools
- Prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs
- Involve parents and communities
- Coordinate with related federal, state and community efforts and resources to foster safe and drug-free schools and communities.
Red Ribbon Week
Each of our campuses participates in Red Ribbon Week activities aimed at educating out students on the dangers of drug use and encouraging them to remain drug free for life.
Life Skills
The Life Skills program is integrated into the curriculum for students in grades 6th-8th. Life Skills is a program based on scientifically supported research that applies proven prevention strategies used to avert or reduce drug use and violence.
