Siemens Competition

Available to:  High School Students

The Siemens Competition is open to high school students. Students are encouraged to do research in mathematics, engineering, biological, or physical science. Students, working individually or on a team of two or three, will have the opportunity to present their research to leading scientists in their field. Three hundred projects are recognized as semifinalists. Regional finalists are awarded a trip to compete at one of six regional competitions. At the regional event, students will present a Powerpoint presentation and digital poster and participate in a question and answer session. Individuals submitting projects must be seniors at the time of the deadline; team applicants may be freshman, sophomores, juniors, or seniors.

Old School Impact Scholarship
Deadline: September 30, 2015
Award: $10,000
Available to: Ages 13 through 26 years

Sponsored by DoSomething.org the Old School Impact Scholarship encourages students to use their skills to improve the lives of older adults. Students can enter up to 10 times by completing 10 different campaigns.

Students complete campaigns by signing up on the website, compeleting task, and submitting a picture as proof of their efforts.

The winner is selected by a random drawing. The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received for the drawing.

Don't Text and Drive Scholarship
Deadline: September 30, 2015
Award: $1,500
Available to:  High School, Undergraduate, and Graduate Students

Do you know how far you will drive on the freeway if you take your eyes off the road for five seconds, the average time it takes to send a text? An entire football field. According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, texting while driving makes drivers 23 times more likely to get into a "safety-critical event."

The purpose of this scholarship is to help you understand the risks of texting while driving. Apply by making a personal statement about texting and driving.

Hit The Books Scholarship
Deadline: September 30, 2015
Award: $500
Available to:  Ages 18 through 25 years

The "Hit The Books" Scholarship is available to students between the ages of 18 and 25. To be considered, you must submit a maximum 500 word essay on the importance of education in your life and how the scholarship money will assist you in achieving your goals. Bonus points will be awarded to students who find a creative way to include their passion for coffee within their essay without losing sight of the primary topic.

Students who do not have access to computers at home may use computers in the A.H. Meadows Library. Please note the requirements and deadlines for each scholarship as well as where each completed application must be submitted. As new scholarship opportunities become available they will be posted at that time.
