STATE AND NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

"Say NO to Bullying" Student Contest
Eligible: Students ages 14-19
Scholarship Amount: $800
Critieria:
-students are asked to submit a video portraying a bullying situation and what they would do to take a stand against it.

Deadline: November 5, 2012

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
Eligible: High School Seniors
Scholarship Amount: If selected, they will become eligible to receive an unrestricted award of $1,000 or more, a medallion, and a paid trip with a parent next spring to Wahington D.C.
National Honorees if selected will receive $5,000, gold medallions, and $5,000 grants for non-profit charitable organizations of their choice.
Critieria: Must have taken part in community service activities over the past year. To be eligible for the State and National level honors candidates must have completed the minimun number of volunteer hours (100 hours).

Free Speech Essay Contest
Eligible: High School Seniors
Scholarship Amount: $10,000
Critieria: Students must submit an essay between 800-1,000 words on provided topic

Deadline: November 25, 2012

Davy O'Brien High School Scholarship
Eligible: High School Senior Student Atheletes
Scholarship Amount: Winner $30,000 to be paid over 4 years (with each year's payment not to exceed $7,500) Finalists will each be awarded $2,500
Critieria:
-must be a senior in an accredited public or private school in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, or Wise County
-must have a minimun score of 1800 on SAT (math, reading, and verbal combined) or a minimun score of
27 on the ACT
-must be participating in High School Varsity Sports
-must posses qualities of leadership as shown through involvement in school, community, religious                                                                                                                                          activities, etc. Offices held, honors received and other evidence or leadership will be considered.
-Potential Applicants MUST have teacher/coach/sponsor nomination to Mrs. Wilhoite by November 12. For more information, please contact:

AXA Achievement Scholarship
Eligible: High School Seniors
Scholarship Amount: one student from each state will be awarded $10,000. In addition,  10 of those students will be selected to additional awards at $15,000 each
Critieria:
-be a U.S. citizen
-be a current HS senior who plans to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university in the U.S by fall 2013
-demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in an acitivity in school, the community, or the workplace AND
-be recommended by an adult who can attest to the student's achievement

Deadline: December 1, 2012 BUT only the first 10,000 applications will be considered. If the program reaches 10,000 before 12-1, the contest will close.





Students who do not have access to computers at home may use computers in the A.H. Meadows Library. Please note the requirements and deadlines for each scholarship as well as where each completed application must be submitted. As new scholarship opportunities become available they will be posted at that time.
