Scholarships
The Midlothian ISD Education Foundation administers two scholarship funds for MISD employees continuing education. Applications for both scholarships are available below, and are awarded at the MISD Staff Awards Ceremonies in late May or early June. Thank you to United Way for initially funding our Paraprofessional Scholarships, and to Trust US Federal Credit Union for funding a 2012 Teacher and a Paraprofessional Scholarship.
The Dolores McClatchey Scholarship For Continued Education
Midlothian ISD strongly believes learners deserve a highly qualified and well-trained staff. Teachers in MISD are leaders of learners and creators of engaging lessons through innovative design. In support of these beliefs, in 1997, the district established an educator scholarship to honor Dolores McClatchey, a professional educator who served the district from 1975 to 2005. This scholarship perpetuates and encourages the ongoing higher education of Midlothian ISD teachers. Additionally, the scholarship is available to any teacher who is actively pursuing an advanced degree.
The teacher makes application to the scholarship committee and, upon meeting the basic requirements, is randomly selected for the scholarship. Scholarships are awarded and presented at the end of each school year during the annual MISD Staff Awards Ceremony. To date, the district has awarded 98 scholarships in the amount of five hundred dollars each for a total of $49,000. Teachers use the scholarship monies for graduate course tuition and books or supplies for the course.
The Dolores McClatchey Scholarship monies were previously funded by contributions through a beverage contract vendor in the district. Since the district no longer contracts for these services, the Midlothian ISD Education Foundation began underwriting the scholarships in May 2010. In 2012, Trust US Federal Credit Union is sponsoring one scholarship.

The United Way, Trust US & MEF Paraprofessional Scholarship
In May 2011, due to generous support from the United Way of West Ellis County, the Midlothian ISD Education Foundation opened a new scholarship for MISD paraprofessional pursuing a degree leading to teacher certification. To be eligible, applicants must be a current part- or full-time MISD paraprofessional pursuing their degree leading toward teacher certification.
The paraprofessional makes application to the scholarship committee and, upon meeting the basic requirements, is randomly selected for the scholarship. Scholarships are awarded and presented at the end of each school year during the annual MISD Staff Awards Ceremony. In the last 2 years, 12 scholarships were awarded in the amount of five hundred dollars each for a total of $6,000. In 2012, Trust US Federal Credit Union is sponsoring one of the five scholarships.
