J.R. Irvin 2nd graders performed ARF! A Canine Musical of Kindness, Courage and Calamity! ARF is a musical about the Westminster Dog Show where excited canines learn that, while we are all different from one another, everyone can make a valuable contribution to the world
we share with others.

Mrs. Dunegan's third grade class at J.R. Irvin was the class that sold the most salsa in the recent PTV fundraiser. They earned a silly string party and enjoyed including Mrs. Embry in the fun!
The students in Mr. Moore's 5th grade Science class at J.R. Irvin are learning about the rotation of the Earth. The class made a Sundial, then watched the shadow of the sun to observe the earth's rotation.
J.R. Irvin held their annual Spelling Bee on January 5, 2012. Twenty-nine fourth and fifth graders qualified for the bee. Hannah M. won the bee with Tyler S. placing second. Hannah will now move on to the Ellis County competition in Maypearl on February 13th.

J.R. Irvin announced the winners of the Box Top Contest. The top 3 students who turned in the most Box Tops became administrators and librarian for a day. J.R. Irvin students enjoy shopping for Christmas gifts from the PTV Holiday Cart.
JR Irvin 3rd graders in Mrs. Garippa's class created 3D shapes using toothpicks and gumdrops. Students learned to recognize and create shapes such as a cube, pyramid, and rectangular prism and created a chart of the faces, edges, and vertices. Shelby W. shows off her pyramid.

J.R. Irvin 4th graders presented "It's Christmas, Carol!", a modern setting of "A Christmas Carol" in which Carol is the grumpiest elf in the North Pole. A family of overworked elves and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future appear as reflectors of a grumpy person's life, with the end result being a festive change of heart and an abudance of yuletide cheer.
Kindergarten concluded their transportation unit of study with airplane and boat races. Students chose to make either a boat or a plane at home with their parents. They brought them to school to compete against all kindergarten students. The following were the winners:

The J.R. Irvin third graders entertained the school on Thursday with their program "Go Fish!" which told the story of a shark who wanted to be friends with all the fish in the ocean.
Our Bluebonnet Award Scavenger Hunt was a success at J.R. Irvin!! Students scanned QR codes which directed them to Bluebonnet Book Trailers hosted on Irvin's vimeo website. Student's previewed 20 book trailers in all, then raced to the shelves to see which books to make their choices. Students shown are John T., Ryan F., Tyler S. and Hunter H.
Frank Seale Middle School students present the annual Red Ribbon Week Pep Rally for J. R. Irvin students, which is a tradition going on for 10 years. All the students pictured here attended J. R. Irvin themselves.
Hunter G. enjoyed learning new things about pumpkins as he helped clean out the seeds of a pumpkin in Mrs. Dobbin's kindergarten class at J.R. Irvin Elementary.
Mr. Moore's 5th Grade Science class at J.R. Irvin have been studying bones in the body. Every student made a 100 on their test identifying the major bones. Way to go 5th Grade!
J.R. Irvin first graders enjoy learning about fire safety with a visit from the Midlothian Fire Department.
The Rowdy Runners participated in the Midlothian Downhill Dash 5K on Saturday, October 15. There are Rowdy Runners clubs at most of the elementary schools to introduce running and healthy exercise. J.R. Irvin Elementary had 28 students participate!

Freeman R. and Jackson P. in Mrs. Warren's class at J.R. Irvin enjoyed making houses for Hansel and Gretel.

Mrs. Garippa's 3rd Graders enjoyed going on a Verb Safari throughout J.R. Irvin Elementary. The "Verb Hunters" looked for vivid verbs and recorded them on their safari sheet.
Sammie, who is a 5th grader at J.R. Irvin Elementary, proudly received a certificate from Mrs. Embry for her heroism during a fire at her house. She saw smoke and flames in the floor vents and immediately called 911. Sammie then gathered her three younger sisters and took them to a safe location outside. She said that her heroic actions were because of safety procedures she learned at school.
