Irvin Wins Bluebonnet Book Bowl
Irvin
students celebrate their team winning the Bluebonnet Book Bowl Trophy
at the MHS auditorium on Feb 29th. Five teams of six students,
representing each MISD elementary campus, competed to determine which
team knew the most trivia about the 20 Bluebonnet books. Irvin’s
team (shown in blue shirts on the stage) consisted of Sarah T., Hudson
P., Savannah P., Megan G., Austyn G., and Ashley R. These six students
were the winners of the campus Bluebonnet competition held in early
February, and enjoyed a ride to MHS in a limousine for the district
competition.
The Bluebonnet Book Bowl Trophy with their names on it will reside
at Irvin for one year. |

R Irvin students and staff enjoyed a high energy pep rally with non other
than the king of rock-n-roll Elvis. This special visit was to help promote
our 50's theme school carnival. We had several of our students & staff
dress up in attire from that time period. Pictured are our first grade teachers

Irvin first grade teachers have become car hops to promote our upcoming

R Irvin was very happy to host Jay Roberts for a day at our school for school
board appreciation month. Our student council enjoyed having lunch with
Mr. Roberts, asking questions and giving him a tour of our school. Thank
you so much for everything you have done for our school and our district. |

Third
graders Will A. and Trent G. share a Power Point presentation with their
kindergarten buddies, Marcus M. and Cole. The third graders made a slide
show called "Santa, Santa What Do You See" using color words and
picture clues that the kindergartners could read. |

economics unit. Students did services or brought goods to sell. They raised
over $900 for families in need! Hailey M. is performing her service of massages

R Irvin 4th grade students enjoyed doing an experiment in science called
pop fizz. Students watched in amazement of how high the soda fizzed up into
the air. |

 The
J.R. Irvin Student Council members rallied the students together during
their annual canned-food drive just before Thanksgiving. The students of
Irvin Elementary brought in just over 2,000 items to donate to Manna House
and families in need. Pictured left are the student council members after

Knedler works with third grade students on area and perimeter. They moved
student desks in many shapes to actually count the area and perimeter. Students

JR
Irvin second graders had a special treat when one of the student's fathers
came to visit them. Mr. Joshua Randall Letson is the Chief Fire Controlman
on the USS Cleveland, LPD 7, Pacific Fleet. Mr. Letson and the sailors recently
worked closely with the San Diego community to bring relief by those affected
by the California wildfires. They also helped in evacuation efforts, they
administered aid, and temporarily sheltered families who had lost their
homes. The USS Cleveland is currently assigned to the Tarawa Expeditionary
Strike Group. |

The
second annual MISD Diabetes Walkathon was held on Nov.1st at the high school
track. The J.R. Irvin faculty showed up in full force, sporting their Pink
Panther Wellness t-shirts and enjoying a night of family fun and fitness.
The walkathon was a huge success, with more than twice the participants
and donations over the previous year! |

Teachers
and staff of JR Irvin Elementary and the family of Sonya Payne took part
in the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure in Dallas held on October 20. They
walked in memory of their dear friend, Sonya. |

During
their measurement unit, second grade students at J. R. Irvin measured and
created spectacular pumpkins that measured 1 yard in length or width and
put them in a "yard" full of pumpkins! |

L., Jenna P., Micah C., Ellie S., and Vanessa M. from Mrs. Golden's 4th
Grade Class are using their laptops to write letters to soldiers over seas.
They included many questions and are awaiting to hear back. The students
thoroughly enjoyed the writing activity by being able to send their "Thanks!" |

D. and Destiny F. enjoyed making a Remy cookie from Ratatouille to take
home as a first day treat. The entire class looked like little chefs in
their hats and with gooey fingers. It was fun for everyone in Karen Warren's
Kindergarten class at J. R. Irvin! |
