The Board approved the Schematic Design of the High School additions and renovations as presented. VLK Architects has had several meetings with different school officials (including teachers) regarding the renovations and additions to the high school.

The overall SITE goals for MHS Additions and Renovations:
• Connect the two existing campuses
• Define parent drop-off and provide additional on-site stacking
• Provide visitor parking for parents and patrons of the public library
• Define bus loop and delivery drive with segregated circulation to improve traffic flow
• Provide adequate student, visitor, staff and faculty parking
• Relocate Agricultural Science facility
• Maintain existing tennis courts
• Provide parking to support after-hours use of Fine Arts and Athletic facilities
• Relocate Band Practice area
• Provide direct access for special needs buses and band instrument loading

The overall BUILDING goals for MHS Additions and Renovations:
• Unite two campuses under one roof
• Increase functional capacity to 2,500 students
• Renovate classrooms to meet current TEA standards
• Provide main street public circulation
• Consolidate food service and cafeteria
• Provide new 800-seat Auditorium and Theater Arts area (at left)
• Provide new A. H. Meadows Library in the heart of the building that meets current TEA standards (see above)
• Provide new 2,500 seat competition gymnasium
• Expand Agricultural Science facilities
• Provide centralized Administration area to serve entire campus at the front door
• Provide identifiable front door
• Renovate South campus
