1. The complete renovation and reconfiguration of the old competition gym into a new practice gym. The space was downsized to practice gym dimensions which will allow for corridor access to the new competition gym, weight room, laundry room, and the reconfigured locker rooms along with new storage areas. The space itself was completely updated with a new wood floor, light fixtures, new bleachers, new basket ball goals, and the entire space was painted and brought up to current building and life safety standards.

2. The existing girls’ locker room was demolished and relocated into the old boys’ locker room area. That space was completely reconfigured to accommodate the space for the girls and also now has a new laundry room, storage areas, and new coaches’ offices for both the boys and girls. Both locker rooms have completely shower and dressing areas along with new lockers, ceramic tile and rubber flooring. In addition new exterior doors were created for each locker room to access the practice fields.

3. The old practice gym has been reconfigured into a new weight room. The space has new heavy duty rubber flooring along with windows that have been added along the corridor wall between the weight room and the adjacent practice gym. New storage rooms compete with millwork has been carved out of the old space on either end of the room.

4. In addition to the athletic areas that were completed during the summer, the ramp/dock access to the kitchen was updated. The existing area was plagued by drainage and access problems along with sanitary sewer stoppages. The old ramp and dock area was taken out, and the sewer lines to and from the grease trap and out of the athletic area were completely reworked all the way to the city manhole. Then, the new paving was installed at an elevation which carries the water out to the drainage ditch rather than letting it accumulate at the loading dock.

The second phase of the project is well under way. This includes the addition of a new competition gym, choir room, and a new toilet and concession area.

The exterior walls of the choir addition are installed along with the structural steel for the roof. Roofing will be installed shortly.

The exterior walls of the new competition gym are nearing completion. The structural steel trusses for the space on site will be erected the week of 10/8/07.

Finishes are nearly complete in the new concession and gang toilet area. The spaces will be ready for occupancy later this month.

Next summer will bring the completion of the final phase of work. That will consist of the reconfiguration and renovation of the old band hall, along with new wall finishes throughout the school. New rubber flooring will be installed in the corridors, and new carpet will be going in at all classrooms. In addition the new fire sprinkler system will be completed and in operation. The old main entry will be reconfigured into a more secure entrance. All visitors will be channeled into the office area rather than allowed access into the school.

Plans for a new football practice field and running track are nearing completion at this time, and construction will begin at the end of October. That facility is scheduled to be completed at the end of the summer of ’08.
