Six MISD schools have been awarded the Energy Star through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Energy Star is a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency. During the Feb. 21 School Board meeting, plaques were presented by an EPA representative to Longbranch, J.A. Vitovsky, Mt. Peak, T.E. Baxter Elementaries and Midlothian High School. All 10 buildings within the school district that were improved through the performance contract are among the top of K-12 schools across the country in terms of energy performance.

“We are thrilled that our schools earned these honors because it recognizes our effort to operate in the most effective manner possible,” said Dr. J.D. Kennedy, superintendent, Midlothian Independent School District. “This advances our core mission because every dollar we save can be reinvested to better educate our students.”
