Midlothian ISD Implements the $205,619 Emergency Management Grant
Posted: 2/23/09
MISD is one of only 91 school districts nationwide that received a federal Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) grant in August, 2007.
This district installed the Rapid Responder® crisis management system to help protect Midlothian schools during a wide variety of emergencies. Rapid Responder from Prepared Response Inc. will provide school security, and will give the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department and Midlothian Police and Fire with secure and instant access to critical campus information including floor plans, aerial imagery, evacuation routes and other important information via a computer. This system will help protect MISD's 13 elementary, middle, high school and administration facilities.
Throughout the 2008-09 school year, district administrators have reviewed existing campus emergency management plans, conducted vulnerability assessments of schools and district facilities, received in-depth training, and have engaged campus staff members and students in crisis simulation drills.
Rapid Responder is endorsed by the National Sheriffs’ Association and is the only campus crisis management system certified as a “Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology” through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s SAFETY Act program. Rapid Responder is protecting 345 school districts in 14 states and is being utilized by nearly 600 public safety agencies. Prepared Response, Inc. was selected for the 2006 National Homeland Defense Foundation’s Innovations award for protecting campuses and students. |
