Administration is pleased to announce the release of the 2007 preliminary
Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) scores. School officials
warn that these results are only preliminary. The 2007 accountability
ratings for the district and each campus will not be released by
the Texas Education Agency until August and finalized in October.
Commended Performance
measures student achievement at its highest level. Students in this
category performed at a level that is considerably above the state
passing standard.
Assistant Superintendent
Judy Walling says, “Our students and teachers are to be commended
for their hard work this year. We strive to have students go above
and beyond the state passing standard. Obtaining Commended Performance
is the key to moving the district toward an Exemplary rating, which
is a goal for MISD.”

TAKS Highlights
• District wide science TAKS scores are 15 percentage points
higher than the state average.
• Over 40% 3rd grade reading students and 5th grade math students
achieved Commended Performance
• Over 60% of 6th & 8th graders achieved Commended Performance
in reading and over 55% of the 8th graders achieved Commended Performance
in social studies.
• Over 40% exit level students achieved Commended Performance
in ELA & Social Studies.

The district
expects each campus to receive numerous Gold Performance Acknowledgements.
Acknowledgement is given for high performance when the campus or
district is rated Academically Acceptable or higher and has met
the acknowledgment criteria on one or more of the following indicators:
attendance, commended reading, math, writing, science, comparable
improvement in reading/ELA and math, recommended high school graduation
plan, and more.
